Today we are honored to visit the loving home of a holy soul and selfless, serving heart in Đồng Nai Province, Âu Lạc (Vietnam). A devout practitioner of Hòa Hảo Buddhism, Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Hồng has vowed to love others as her own family, in following the teachings of its virtuous founder, Huỳnh Phú Sổ. Over 14 years ago, she and her husband, Mr. Trần Thanh Thuận, built a retirement home, where they currently care for 75 senior citizens, half of whom are disabled and require special and continual care. Some of those who come here often do not carry any identification nor even remember their name but are accepted and loved. Through the devoted compassionate heart of Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Hồng and her helpers, the once frail, lonely, and neglected senior citizens have found revived health, warmth, and comfort, along with a family that cares for them unconditionally. “I practice according to the Hòa Hảo Buddhism. Prophet Huỳnh Phú Sổ taught us Eight Commandments, and the eighth one was that we must love each other like the children of the same Father and guide each other on the virtuous path. And He taught us to love not only the Hòa Hảo Buddhists but everyone. So I love the elderly like we are the children of the same Father. Seeing the elderly wandering without a place to stay, I remembered the teachings of Master Huỳnh, so I brought the elderly to my home and took care of them in order to follow His teachings.” Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Hồng believes the vegan diet is profoundly beneficial to our health, both nutritionally and especially by cleansing ourselves of the bad killing karma. “And I have been vegan for 30 years, and my health is excellent. Many of them who came here were already paralyzed, wearing diapers, but after they ate vegan food for a while, their health recovered very well.”Touched by her profound unconditional kindness, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Nguyễn Thị Hồng and Trần Thanh Thuận, and a humble contribution of US$10,000 toward their noble cause with gratitude and praises.” Master later contributed another US$10,000 to send to this benevolent home for further support of their noble work.
