In today’s news, Qatar Charity projects support vulnerable families in Nigeria, Australia’s marine sanctuaries may be vulnerable to climate change by 2040, provincial court in Argentina issues historic ruling upholding animal-people rights, US researchers develop way to turn food waste into jet fuel, global tech company honors young artificial intelligence innovators from 32 countries at annual event, United States college introduces fully vegan food service, and French cat-person missing for five years reunites with loving family.

I have an animal-companion care tip to share. Dog-people can show signs of depression much like humans, even though it isn’t formally diagnosed the same way. Common signs include becoming withdrawn, inactive, sleeping more, eating less, or losing interest in favorite activities. These changes often have clear causes, such as lack of attention, loss of a loved one, harsh training, or underlying medical problems. Dog-folk left alone for long hours may feel lonely or bored, so make time for daily interaction through walks, play, training, or gentle grooming. If a family member or another animal companion has passed away, offer extra affection and routine to provide comfort and stability. Avoid harsh correction tools such as shock collars or any form of punishment. Reward-based training instead builds confidence, trust, and positive habits. If your dog-person’s low mood continues or is accompanied by appetite loss or physical changes, consult a veterinarian to rule out health issues and provide proper care.

Comedy break! It’s now time for today’s joke, titled “The Pep Talk.”

Irene was visiting her elder uncle, John, at the nursing home. He’d endured a tough life, and it showed — his hands were calloused, his skin wrinkled, and he walked slowly. Feeling particularly down that day, John sat in his room, combing his hair and muttered:

“It’s hopeless.”

“Don’t say that! It’s never hopeless. You just need to make a choice to change your life and seek help. Trust me, things will start looking up!”

Uncle John turned to her with a weary look and replied:

“I was talking about my hair.”

?!

And now we have a heartline in Mandarin Chinese, with multiple-language subtitles, from Yu-Jie in China
