Today’s Shining World Award program features an aviary in Northern California, USA, specially dedicated to injured and rescued pigeon and dove persons. Let’s discover a few facts about our tender domestic pigeon-people from caring Elizabeth. “They're very emotional, but they're also really easy. I call them masters of the leisure arts. They like to bathe and lay in the sun. They're good couch potatoes. They're really easy to help. And they need help. Every shelter that accepts domestic pigeons has them waiting for homes. We've got over 160 in foster care, just here in our bay area foster homes.” Elizabeth endeavors to change the public’s perception about having pigeon and dove-people as pets. Many adopters have also switched to a vegan diet after connecting with these gentle and adorable beings, especially when they can no longer see animal-people as food. The heart-warming rescue stories on Palomacy’s official website have been and continue to be a real eye-opener. “We're here today at the Conscious Eating conference, surrounded with animal lovers and activists and animal rights supporters, vegans who are helping to speak up for these animals who are so worthy of care and compassion but aren't able to generate it themselves without the support of humans. We do a lot of rescues of found birds, and we realize that we always have to work through the humans to help those birds.” Upon learning about their touching efforts, our Cherished Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) - "Thankfully present Jill McMurchy & Elizabeth Young the Shining World Compassion Award for Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoptions, plus a humble, loving contribution of US$10,000 to support their benevolent work, with all love, gratitude and best wishes, in Heaven’s grace.”
