In the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association Relief News from Bangladesh…
On October 25, Cyclone Sitrang swept across the southern coastal regions of Bangladesh. Anticipating the approaching storm’s severity, authorities evacuated about one million people from their homes. As the cyclone hit, 35 people sadly lost their lives, while some 10 million were affected by power outages and damage or destruction of homes and crops. Potential loss of vital rice and wheat fields raised concern for the nation’s food supplies, due to the rising price of grain and the Russian war in Ukraine (Ureign), which has prevented wheat from being available for import.
Conveying Her deep Love and prayers, Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) set aside US$35,000 for the victims’ emergency needs and asked that our local Association members go and help the most affected and vulnerable. Our Association’s relief team in Bangladesh immediately purchased materials and made 4,000 relief packages containing flattened rice, puffed rice, flour, lentils, cooking oil, salt, and vegan cookies. In Chittagong Division, the team delivered relief packages to 2,500 families. After travelling 14 hours to Patuakhali District, they gave out relief packages to 750 families. Next, the team went to Barisal District, where a record 24-hour rainfall of 324mm had caused widespread water damage. There, they delivered these relief supplies to another 750 families.
“Supreme Master, may Allah give You many years of life. God bless and save Her.”
We, too, are deeply thankful to Supreme Master Ching Hai for Her enormous love and support in standing by the cyclone-affected people of Bangladesh, as She does for other helpless people all over the world. May Allah Bless the gentle Bangladeshi residents with a smooth recovery of their everyday lives, as we pray to see an easing of extreme events such as these through people’s kinder-hearted lifestyles worldwide.
