First, let's start with a snippet from the exceptionally gifted Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto. We can feel humor, warmth, passion, sincerity and excitement even in these few short minutes. In this next masterwork, the third movement of the third piano sonata by Alexander Scriabin, we hear the fragile beauty and delightful effervescence of created form. For our final 20th century masterwork, we turn to the prominent Hungarian composer, ethnomusicologist, and educator, Béla Bartók. Marked as "Adagio Religioso," this is the only work in all of Bartók's creative output with a directly spiritual reference.
