Thinking of losing some weight after the holidays? A new study finds a low-carb, plant-based diet is linked to better long-term weight management than low-carb diets consisting of animal-people meat and refined starches. Former studies also associate plant-based diets with reduced body mass index (BMI) and a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, among many other health benefits. Here are a few tips for giving a low-carb vegan diet a try.
1) Prioritize protein, eating plenty of beans, legumes, soy, nuts, nut butters, and seeds, all of which are packed with protein and plant-powered nutrition.
2) Count your carbs using a fitness tracker or pen and paper, limiting carbohydrate intake to fruits, beans, and whole grains, while avoiding refined starches like white bread altogether.
3) Eat healthy plant-based fats, with plenty of olive, coconut, and/or avocado oil.
4) Choose nutrient-dense plant foods like spinach, hemp seeds, and berries to provide your body with essential vitamins and minerals.
5) Supplement with vitamin B12 through fortified foods like nutritional yeast, or as a vegan multivitamin.

The following joke has been certified as grin-inducing. It’s entitled “Worrying Too Much.”
When the wife was about to go to bed, she saw a window not yet closed, so she reminded her husband:
“Please close all the windows. If we forget, the thieves could come in and take all our money.”
“Oh, don't worry, honey! Even I don't know where you keep the money, let alone any thief.”
