On the occasion of the Lunar New Year in February 2007, a grand celebration was held at Hsihu Ashram in Taiwan, also known as Formosa. Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association members (all vegans) from around the world joyously gathered to meditate with Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) for spiritual elevation and world peace. The event’s focus was the Shining World Leadership Award ceremony, which honored esteemed dignitaries from the Philippines, known for their gold hearts and shining presence as examples of compassionate leadership. During the 1990s, they opened their arms to thousands of Aulacese (Vietnamese) refugees. The dignitaries honored were the President of the Philippines, His Excellency Fidel Valdez Ramos; the President of the Gusi Peace Prize Foundation, Mr. Manuel Morato; and His Excellency Heherson Alvarez, a politician and Environmental Secretary. Senator Alvarez: I have not seen an event like this in my whole life when so many cheering, lively, caring, loving people have spontaneously come together on top of a mountain to cheer the whole of humanity. […] And here we were with the golden opportunity of reaching out, extending our compassion and our love. […] Thank you for this fine opportunity of having rediscovered ourselves, of being of service to our fellow human beings, and always to remind us and the rest of humanity that we cannot have oppression, that we must have a happy humanity. […] Manuel L. Morato: Thank you very much to all of you for being present tonight, because there is one lesson that we all have to learn – that we have to care for each other and love one another. […] Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) also conveyed Her sincere gratitude and appreciation to these compassionate leaders and other noble souls who stood by Her side in the meaningful humanitarian mission for world peace. Master: We thank them all for their exceptional charity, generosity, noble unconditional love. We thank them all from the very heart of our hearts. […] We do hope that one day we only know about “Peace,” and the word “war” will be forever forgotten in the dictionary of humankind. We do hope that one day, there is not even a single frontier left between nations, but we all will become brothers and sisters in the big global family. […] Additionally, in the harmonious spirit of the Lunar New Year, the event featured uplifting multicultural performances by Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association members (all vegans), welcoming a peaceful and auspicious start to the year.
