The Book of Job is the first poetic book in the Old Testament of the Christian Holy Bible. One of its main themes is God’s justice and why the righteous at times appear to be punished. Job was a wealthy and pious man who always avoided evil. One day, Satan asked God if he could test Job’s goodness, arguing that Job was good only because God blessed him abundantly. In the following excerpts, Job suffers greatly; his faith is tested. But in the end, he resolves to continue pursuing wisdom by fearing God and choosing righteousness.
